PDP elder Bode George has called for urgent collective action to address Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, warning that citizens are increasingly suffering from abductions and killings across the country.
Speaking to reporters in Lagos, George said: “From Kebbi to Zamfara, Borno to Benue, Kwara to Ogun, citizens are being abducted and killed by violent elements.” He stressed that the political class should prioritise security over preoccupation with the 2027 elections.
On the party’s internal crisis, George condemned recent disruptions at the PDP national secretariat, describing the actions of expelled members allegedly encouraged by a serving minister as “an unacceptable assault on democratic order.”
“Their attempt to prevent a duly-elected leadership from assuming office was not only unlawful but part of a broader pattern that threatens multi-party democracy in Nigeria,” he said.
George emphasised that while members are free to leave the party, deliberate provocation and disregard for party rules must stop. He criticised the forced entry into the PDP secretariat, questioning the authority under which police intervened.
“It is troubling that in the face of all this, the President the custodian of our democracy has remained silent. Silence at such a moment can only be interpreted as tacit approval,” George added, urging adherence to lawful procedures and respect for democratic order.
