Bala Mohammed Accuses Tinubu of Intimidation, Affirms PDP Unity

Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed, has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of systematically intimidating PDP governors through political coercion and manipulation.

Governor Mohammed made the allegation while addressing party stakeholders at the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held Tuesday in Abuja. He warned that despite mounting pressure and recent defections, PDP governors remain resolute, united, and undeterred.

“As governors, we have gone through a lot. This dispensation is different under the present administration. There are so many booby traps, innuendos, and political movements. There is no intimidation that we are not going through,” Mohammed stated.

He acknowledged the recent defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside signs of possible defection by Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno. Nonetheless, he insisted the PDP remains Nigeria’s most cohesive political party.

“You would give it to us that we are together, united. We have been holding meetings in various states… and this is what keeps the party going,” he noted.

Mohammed urged party members not to be discouraged by temporary setbacks, expressing confidence that some defectors would eventually return. “This is not the first time people left PDP and came back. I am sure they will come back.”

Describing the NEC meeting as a “triumph of democracy and good governance,” Mohammed also lamented that it was the party’s first NEC session since April 2024, in breach of the party’s constitution which mandates quarterly meetings.

Also speaking at the session, Senator Abba Moro (Benue South) reaffirmed the support of the PDP National Assembly caucus for the party leadership, emphasizing that defections though challenging will not diminish the party’s standing.

“While the defection of very senior members of the party must have a temporary setback, we believe that PDP… will definitely be the party to beat, even in 2027,” Moro said.

He described the PDP as Nigeria’s most credible alternative and called for a leadership that reflects the people’s needs, adding, “This country needs another level of leadership.”

As the 2027 general elections approach, the PDP leadership is prioritizing internal unity, institutional strength, and resilience in the face of growing political challenges.
