Asari Dokubo Accuses Tinubu of Betrayal, Vows Alliance with Northern Leaders

Mujahid Asari Dokubo, a former militant leader who actively campaigned for President Bola Tinubu, has accused the president of betrayal. In a widely circulated video, Dokubo expressed frustration over what he described as neglect by Tinubu, despite his efforts and financial contributions to support the president’s election.

Dokubo announced his intention to form a political alliance with the North, stating that after risking his life and resources for the Yoruba people, he received no support in return. “I apologize to our fathers because they were not wrong in forming an alliance with the North, and as young men, we will now start that same alliance,” he declared. “From today, I will work and form an alliance with the North. President Tinubu betrayed me after I spent all my money and emptied my bank account campaigning for him. The Tinubu I know now isn’t the Tinubu I used to know.”

He went on to criticize the Yoruba, accusing them of betrayal and asserting that only the Northerners could work with the Ijaw people. “We can’t work with Yoruba people; they are a betrayal to us. We risked our lives by voting and doing everything, and this is what we get?” Dokubo stated.

It remains unclear when Dokubo’s relationship with Tinubu soured, though tensions reportedly surfaced after his visit to the Presidential Villa drew controversy. Dokubo had visited the president within a month of his inauguration and spoke to reporters afterward, praising Tinubu’s resolve to address corruption within the military. “The President is a strong President. He is going to take decisive actions to get rid of the rotten eggs,” he had said, referencing those in the Army and Navy he believed had an “entitlement mentality.”

Following that meeting, Dokubo even urged Nigerians to hold him accountable if Tinubu did not fulfill his promises.
