APC Is for All, Not One — Deputy Speaker

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Benjamin Kalu, has reiterated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is owned by no single individual, including President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking in Umuahia while addressing APC stakeholders during the party’s ward congress, Kalu stressed that unity and cohesion are essential for the party’s success in the 2027 elections.

He said the congresses aim to eliminate internal divisions and “build a united front, anchored on discipline, inclusion, and purpose,” emphasizing that the party belongs to all its members.

Kalu explained that earlier congresses were cancelled due to conflicting forms submitted in violation of the national leadership’s directives. “It is nothing else but a congress of harmonisation,” he said, “where stakeholders are given a sense of belonging in deciding who will lead from their ward to their local government, as well as the state. It will be made obvious that no one man will own the party—not Benjamin Kalu, not anybody. That is the vision of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. When I met with him, he said, ‘I can’t even say my party; I like saying our party.’”

The Chairman of the Congress Committee, Emmanuel Goar, assured stakeholders of a peaceful and transparent congress, noting that the committee would work with the state leadership to ensure successful conduct.

Forms for the ward congresses were later distributed across the 184 wards in the state, with the Local Government congress scheduled for Thursday, February 26.
