APC Convention Ends with Yilwatda Retained as Chairman, New Party Leaders Emerge

The All Progressives Congress has wrapped up its 8th National Convention, confirming key figures into top leadership roles following a consensus-driven process.
At the gathering held in Eagle Square, Nentawe Yilwatda was returned as national chairman, while Surajudeen Basiru emerged as the party’s secretary. Other members of the National Working Committee (NWC), including Felix Morka and Dayo Israel, also retained or secured positions.
The event attracted major political figures, including President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, alongside governors, lawmakers, and thousands of party delegates.
In his remarks, Tinubu acknowledged the challenges facing the country but insisted that ongoing reforms are beginning to yield results. He pointed to improvements in investor confidence and renewed interest in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector as signs of progress.
The president also addressed concerns about electricity, assuring citizens that efforts are underway to stabilise power supply and boost industrial growth. He emphasised the importance of youth participation, describing young Nigerians as central to the nation’s future.
Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, praised the administration’s policies, noting that they are laying the groundwork for long-term economic stability.
Similarly, Finance Minister Wale Edun highlighted signs of economic recovery, including improved growth figures and renewed investor confidence.
Speaking on behalf of the convention planning committee, Bello Masari expressed confidence in the party’s strength ahead of future elections, stating that the APC remains a dominant force in Nigeria’s political landscape.
The convention concluded with party leaders reaffirming their commitment to unity and preparations for upcoming electoral contests.
