The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, Chief Whip of the Senate, for his recent comments alleging that President Bola Tinubu has been “caged” and is unaware of Nigeria’s critical challenges.
In a statement issued on Saturday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka condemned Ndume’s remarks as arrogant and unnecessary. Morka urged Ndume, a senior party member and senator, to exercise restraint and avoid seeking unhelpful media attention.
“As a Senator of the Federal Republic, Ndume has the platform of the National Assembly to raise and address matters in the national interest,” Morka emphasized. He pointed out that Ndume has access to various government mechanisms but did not elaborate on how he has utilized this access to address his concerns.
Morka continued, “While Senator Ndume may feel frustrated by perceived challenges in accessing the President, this does not justify his assertion that the President is somehow detached from the country’s realities. His remarks suggest an undue entitlement to immediate access.”
“The President remains actively engaged in his duties, including recent initiatives such as the inauguration of the Presidential Economic Coordination Council and the launch of the Economic Stabilization Programme,” Morka highlighted. He noted President Tinubu’s recent meetings with labor leaders on minimum wage issues and his efforts to combat terrorism and reduce drug prices through executive actions.
“Our country requires concerted efforts for national transformation,” Morka concluded, emphasizing the importance of collective action in addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic and security challenges.
