Anyanwu: I’m a Victim of PDP’s Proxy War Against Wike

National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, has attributed the opposition against him within the party to his friendship with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Speaking in an interview with The Nation, Anyanwu stated that some party leaders have been waging a proxy war against him due to his association with Wike.

His remarks come after the Supreme Court on Friday nullified the judgment that sacked him as PDP National Secretary amid a prolonged leadership tussle with Sunday Udeh-Okoye.

Addressing concerns that some party members might defect if he retains his position, Anyanwu dismissed such claims as mere speculation.

“Why would they consider leaving just because I’m National Secretary? Many of those who are PDP governors today were elected while I was in office. I signed their nomination letters submitted to INEC,” he said.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to Wike, insisting that he would not abandon his friendships for political convenience.

“Several of those opposing me are only doing so because of my relationship with Wike, who has been my bosom friend long before politics brought us to this point. I was not even there for him when he ran for PDP’s presidential ticket.

“So now, what have I done to harm the party? It’s all speculation. PDP is too strong and too big to be reduced to a mere coalition partner. Instead, other platforms should merge into the PDP,” he added.
