The court issued the order in response to the commission’s request and the detained lawmaker’s plea to represent himself in a London court.
Although the court had on July 1 issued an order that the four respondents sued by Ekweremadu release details of David Ukpo to him and his detained wife, Beatrice, NIMC did not obey the order.
In Wednesday’s proceedings, NIMC’s representative, Mr. Muazu Mohammed, informed Justice Ekwo that his client was unable to comply with the court’s decision since he had not been given a hearing notice prior to the issuance of the order. Mohammed amended his motion on notice after initially asking for the order to be revoked.
Instead of asking for the order to be revoked, the lawyer asked that his client be instructed to give information about David Ukpo to the AGF rather than Ekweremadu for transmission to the UK court detaining the Nigerian Senator.
The contender for Ekweremadu, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo SAN, did not object to the request. After granting the plea, Justice Ekwo instructed NIMC to forward the biodata to the AGF for transmission to London Court.
