Akpabio, Akpoti-Uduaghan Reconcile as Senate Set to Commission Projects

Signs of reconciliation have surfaced between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central) as the latter invited Akpabio and other lawmakers to her constituency project commissioning in Kogi State next week.

The development came to light on Thursday when Akpabio read Akpoti-Uduaghan’s letter of invitation during plenary.

In the letter, personally signed by her, the senator urged her colleagues to join her in Ihima, Kogi State, on Sunday for the event marking her second year in the Senate.

“In marking my second-year anniversary as serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I wish to invite fellow Distinguished Senators to join me for projects commissioning in Kogi State,” she wrote.

According to the invitation, the meeting point will be her residence at Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street, Ihima, Okene, while senators arriving by air can land at the Obajana Airstrip before proceeding to the venue by road.

Visibly delighted after reading the letter, Akpabio congratulated his colleague, saying, “Congratulations in advance.”

Observers view the invitation as a major step toward mending their previously strained relationship.

Both lawmakers had clashed earlier in the year over seat reallocation in the Senate chamber a dispute that led to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s six-month suspension on March 6.

Since her reinstatement on September 24, she has gradually reconnected with Senate leadership and resumed active participation in plenary, including contributing to the recent Criminal Code Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

Thursday’s public acknowledgment of her invitation by Akpabio marks the clearest indication yet that peace may have finally returned between the two.
