Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery across the state, with a pledge to implement electoral promises and ensure proper execution of health policies.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on Health, Prof. Michael Simidele Odimayo, during the distribution of professional kits to health workers and institutions, Aiyedatiwa said the gesture aligns with his administration’s broader healthcare revitalization efforts.
The distribution, part of the 10,000 kits donated by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for the southwest region, saw 1,166 kits allocated to Ondo State. Odimayo noted the kits would cover about 75 percent of healthcare workers in the state, including medical and nursing students.
“By giving them these kits and scrubs, they can be better motivated to care for the people,” he stated, adding that beneficiaries include public and private health facilities, training institutions, and schools of nursing and midwifery.
Major facilities receiving the kits include the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Specialist Hospitals in Akure and Ondo, Primary Health Centres, and other institutions under the state’s Hospital Management Board.
Highlighting the administration’s broader strides in the sector, Odimayo revealed that over 102 healthcare facilities across all local government areas are undergoing upgrades, including improvements in lighting (with solar power), fencing, water supply, and staff accommodation.
He also noted that the government is actively employing and replacing health personnel, ensuring prompt salary payments and improving welfare. “His [Governor Aiyedatiwa’s] commitment to the healthcare system is top-notch and fantastic,” Odimayo said.
The kit distribution follows Senator Remi Tinubu’s recent visit to the state, marking a continued effort to empower healthcare professionals across the southwest.
