AFCON 2025 to be Hosted in Morocco

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) Executive Committee has announced the dates for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be hosted in Morocco.
The tournament will take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his confidence in the success of the event, stating, “I am confident that the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 will be extremely successful and will be the best AFCON in the history of this competition. I am also impressed by the enormous growth of Women’s Football in Africa and I am expecting the CAF Total Energies WAFCON Morocco 2024 to be immensely successful.”
Motsepe acknowledged the delays in announcing the dates, citing complex and challenging discussions due to extensive international and domestic match calendars. He emphasized CAF’s commitment to advancing the interests of African players globally and fostering beneficial relationships with various football organizations, including the ECA, UEFA, and FIFA.
“We will continue to make significant progress in developing and ensuring that African Football is globally competitive and amongst the best in the World. CAF is grateful to King Mohamed VI of Morocco, the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), its President Fouzi Lekjaa, the Government and people of Morocco for hosting the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 and the CAF TotalEnergies WAFCON Morocco 2024,” Motsepe added.
FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa also expressed his optimism, stating, “We hope that the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 will be the best event to honour Africa and Morocco will make available the best conditions to host the rest of Africa and the World.”
The qualifying draw for the 2025 AFCON is scheduled to take place in Johannesburg on July 4, where 48 teams will be divided into 12 groups. Although Morocco is guaranteed a place in the 24-team finals as the host nation, they will participate in the qualifiers to gain competitive match practice.
