Ademola Adeyemi-Bero has been appointed as Nigeria’s Governor for the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the Chairman of the OPEC Board of Governors for 2025. His appointment was confirmed at the 189th meeting of the OPEC Conference, as announced by Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil).
In a statement by his media aide, Nneamaka Okafor, Lokpobiri praised Adeyemi-Bero’s elevation, noting that it reflects Nigeria’s active and significant contributions to the global oil industry.
“This appointment provides Nigeria with a vital platform to advocate for balanced energy policies that benefit oil producers, consumers, and the global economy,” Lokpobiri said, emphasizing the importance of Adeyemi-Bero’s role in shaping the future of global energy discussions.
Before his appointment as the Chairman of the OPEC Board of Governors, Adeyemi-Bero had already been confirmed as Nigeria’s OPEC Governor for 2025. The minister also expressed deep gratitude to Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, the outgoing Nigerian OPEC Governor, for his exemplary service and leadership in advancing Nigeria’s interests within OPEC.
The OPEC Conference also made key appointments, including the selection of Adeeb Al-Aama as Governor of Saudi Arabia for OPEC and as the Alternate Chairman of the Board of Governors for 2025.
In other decisions, the OPEC Conference extended the tenure of His Excellency Haitham Al Ghais as OPEC Secretary General for another three years, effective August 1, 2025. Member nations commended his leadership and the Secretariat’s unwavering commitment to achieving the organization’s goals.
This significant development strengthens Nigeria’s presence and influence in global energy matters, positioning the country to play an even more integral role in shaping the future of the petroleum industry.
