Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar says the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is the only political party capable of rescuing Nigeria from its deepening economic hardship and security challenges.
Atiku made the declaration in Jalingo on Thursday while inaugurating the Taraba State office of the ADC, just days after defecting to the party 17 months before the 2027 general elections.
He said his long years across major political platforms, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), convinced him that those parties lack the capacity to pull Nigeria out of its current crisis. He noted that he left the PDP on July 16 due to irreconcilable differences that made his continued membership untenable.
Urging Taraba residents to take the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise seriously, Atiku said only active participation can drive real political change.
“I am in Taraba to inaugurate our new party office of the ADC, and I want you to hold the party with integrity,” he said. “Do not allow anybody to deceive you with any other party, because we have tasted other political parties and they brought nothing but insecurity, hunger, poverty, unemployment.”
He said the ADC’s current political mobilisation is targeted at restoring hope for young people and women.
“The youths and women should know that we are doing this for them to have a better future, and I am holding on to their promise,” he added.
Expressing confidence ahead of the 2027 elections, Atiku declared:
“ADC will win Taraba State, win Nigeria as the only reliable political party.”
