The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled Adolphus Wabara, the embattled Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and former President of the Nigerian Senate.
The decision was announced on Tuesday following an emergency meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC), convened to review a report from the party’s Disciplinary Committee, which had been investigating allegations against Wabara.
In a statement signed by Abia State PDP Chairman Abraham Amah and State Secretary Peter Nwaokonko, the party confirmed that the SWC unanimously approved the recommendation to expel Wabara after thoroughly reviewing the committee’s findings.
Citing Articles 57(3) and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), the party stated that Wabara’s expulsion strips him of all rights and privileges within the party. The statement further urged the National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC) to immediately appoint an Acting BoT Chairman to replace him.
“In line with Article 57(3) and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), which stipulates that an expelled member cannot exercise any rights or privileges within the party, the Abia State Executive Committee hereby recommends the immediate appointment of an Acting BoT Chairman by the NWC and NEC of our great party,” Amah stated.
Wabara’s issues with the Abia PDP escalated weeks ago when the state’s SWC suspended him over alleged anti-party activities. However, the National Working Committee intervened and nullified the suspension.
With this latest development, Wabara’s future within the PDP remains uncertain as the party moves forward with its decision.
