The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sharply criticised Governor Alex Otti’s administration, accusing it of operating a one-man rule marked by a lack of transparency, accountability, and institutional oversight.
Speaking during the inauguration of Renewed Hope Partners, a grassroots mobilisation group supporting President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign, Abia APC Chairman, Dr. Kingsley C. Ononogbu, described the Otti government as dominated by propaganda and unchecked power.
“Abia State today is nothing but a one-man show anchored on a very well-oiled propaganda machinery,” Ononogbu stated. “Accountability is long gone. Checks and balances are non-existent, while conflict of interest has become the norm.”
He alleged that Governor Otti has excessively centralised power, combining the roles of chief executive, accountant, and auditor, and governing primarily from his private residence rather than the official Government House.
Ononogbu further claimed there are plans to convert the Government House into a five-star hotel, raising questions about the government’s priorities.
On the issue of public contracts, Ononogbu criticised the administration’s road contract awards, asserting they lack transparency and breach Financial and General Purposes Committee (F&GPC) guidelines.
“There is no transparency. The process lacks credibility,” he added.
Urging party supporters and the Renewed Hope Partners to intensify grassroots mobilisation, Ononogbu expressed confidence that the APC would reclaim power at both state and federal levels in Abia in the 2027 elections.
“You are not just a support group. You are allies of the party,” he said, warning against “sugar-coated lies” from opposition parties.
Ononogbu also echoed President Tinubu’s call for party unity, appealing to estranged members to rejoin the APC.
“In the spirit of the ongoing reconciliations… I urge all members who have stayed away from party activities to come back home.”
The statement underscores the APC’s commitment to challenge the Labour Party-led government in Abia State as political battles intensify ahead of 2027.
