Indications to this development emerged recently when the British deputy high commissioner in Nigeria Gill Atkinson, visited Kwara State between 9 -11 June to attend the official launch and public presentation of the 2021 Edition of the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition in Nigeria, hosted by the first lady of Kwara State, Dr. Olufolake Addulrazaq.

Discussing the issue of insecurity across the country with the Kwara State government and security officials, Ms. Atkinson reiterated that the UK and international partners have mapped out strategies to effectively support Nigeria’s efforts to tackle security challenges in Kwara, the North Central region, and across the country.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) yesterday expressed its readiness to work with other donor partners and the Government of Nigeria to put relevant policies in place and advance peace and security in the North East and the rest of the country.

A representative of UK FCDO, Paul Nyulaku, said this in Abuja at North East Conflict Management and Stabilisation (NECMS) Programme joint consortium learning event and press conference.

The event was organized by UK FCDO, Mercy Corps (MC), Centre for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC), Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD), and Okapi Consulting/Radio Ndarason International.

Nyulaku in his remarks said peace building initiatives remain critical factors in the face of the enormous damage brought about by insecurity, which had claimed many lives, destroyed livelihoods, and impacted negatively on the economy in the North East.
