Officials confirmed the development Monday as investigations continue into the incident, which Polish authorities have described as an act of sabotage.
The facility is associated with Starlink, the satellite-based internet service operated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which has become an important communications tool for Ukraine’s military during its ongoing war with Russia.
Polish officials did not disclose the identities of the two suspects or specify when and where they were detained in Germany.
The arrests come amid growing concerns across Europe over suspected sabotage operations, cyberattacks and other forms of hybrid warfare linked to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Authorities in several European Union countries have warned of an increase in activities believed to be aimed at disrupting critical infrastructure, weakening public support for Ukraine and undermining European security.
Starlink has played a significant role in maintaining communications for Ukrainian forces, making satellite internet infrastructure an issue of strategic importance during the conflict.
However, Polish authorities have not publicly established whether the fire at the Starlink facility was connected to Russia or whether the detained individuals acted on behalf of any foreign government.
The investigation is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the fire and determine whether additional individuals were involved.
The case highlights continuing security concerns surrounding communications infrastructure in Europe as Russia’s war in Ukraine continues.
