IPOB Denies Plans to Resume Monday Sit-at-Home in Southeast

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has denied plans to resume enforcing the Monday sit-at-home order across the South-East, rejecting reports linking the group and its Eastern Security Network (ESN) to a planned return of the directive.

In a statement on Monday, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful described a purported police intelligence report dated October 9, 2026, which claimed enforcement would resume on October 12, as fabricated.

“The IPOB, under the supreme leadership of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, rejects the allegations contained in the purported police intelligence report dated October 9, 2026, which claims that IPOB/ESN intends to resume Monday sit-at-home enforcement from 12 October 2026,” the statement read.

“There is no voice note. There is no order from IPOB or ESN to resume any sit-at-home. There is no plan by this movement to enforce anything on the people of the South-East or Imo State,” Powerful said.

He accused the Nigeria Police Force of collaborating with politicians and former members of IPOB’s disbanded Directorate of State (DOS) to spread misinformation.

Powerful maintained that the group’s objective remained the pursuit of Biafran self-determination through peaceful means and called on the police to provide evidence supporting the report, including the original recording and its source.

He also alleged that the withdrawal of security personnel from parts of the South-East could trigger renewed violence, urging the Federal Government to address insecurity, hunger and unemployment.

The spokesperson further called for the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, describing his continued detention as illegal.

The authenticity of the purported police intelligence report and the allegations made by both sides were not independently established in the supplied account.
