The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states following court judgments directing their restoration.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
The restored constituencies are:
· Abraka State Constituency — Delta State
· Isoko North II State Constituency — Delta State
· Ughelli South II State Constituency — Delta State
· Yagba West II State Constituency — Kogi State
INEC said political parties would conduct primaries for candidates seeking to contest the restored constituencies between August 21 and 25, 2026.
The commission said the primaries would run concurrently with those for bye-elections to fill vacancies in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State; Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies of Bauchi State; Udu State Constituency of Delta State; and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency of Kano State.
Elections into the affected constituencies have been scheduled for September 19, 2026.
INEC said all other timelines and activities contained in its already published revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election would apply to the restored constituencies.
The commission urged political parties to submit notices of their respective primaries before the scheduled dates.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting credible, inclusive and transparent electoral processes.
