US strikes bridges and collapses a tower at a key port as its Iran campaign expands

U.S. Expands Strikes on Iranian Infrastructure as Hormuz Conflict Intensifies

The United States intensified its military campaign against Iran early Friday, striking bridges, energy facilities and infrastructure at a key Iranian port as President Donald Trump increases pressure on Tehran over its control of the Strait of Hormuz.

The latest U.S. attacks marked an expansion of Washington’s air campaign, following Trump’s warnings that Iranian infrastructure could be targeted unless Tehran eases restrictions on shipping through the strategically vital waterway.

Iran responded with a new wave of missile attacks against U.S.-allied countries across the Middle East, including Qatar, which has played a key role as a mediator in efforts to end the conflict.

An Iranian attack also damaged a power and water desalination facility in Kuwait, raising concerns about critical infrastructure in the desert nation, where desalination plants are essential to the country’s water supply.

The latest escalation comes after the interim ceasefire agreed to last month effectively collapsed, triggering several days of retaliatory strikes between the United States and Iran as both sides clash over control and navigation of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian officials say U.S. military operations have killed dozens of people and wounded hundreds, with additional casualties reported following Friday’s strikes.

The Strait of Hormuz has remained at the center of the conflict since the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran on February 28.

Tehran subsequently imposed severe restrictions on shipping through the waterway, disrupting global energy supplies and sending oil prices sharply higher. The move also provided Iran with significant leverage in subsequent negotiations.

In a primetime address to the American public, President Donald Trump maintained that the U.S. military campaign against Iran was making significant progress.

“We are likewise winning big in Iran, and you will see the fruits of that labor very, very shortly,” Trump said.

The expanding military campaign and renewed Iranian retaliation have heightened fears of a broader regional confrontation, while continued disruption in the Strait of Hormuz threatens global shipping and energy markets.
