Thousands of fans are expected to pack the streets of Lower Manhattan on Thursday as the New York Knicks celebrate their first NBA championship in more than five decades with a ticker-tape parade through the city.
The celebration is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET near the southern end of Broadway and proceed north toward City Hall, where players, coaches and team officials will be honored in an official ceremony.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is expected to present the team with the Keys to the City in recognition of its championship-winning season.
The Knicks’ title-winning roster features stars including Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby.
Speaking on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Towns reflected on the significance of the moment for both the franchise and its fans.
“To see great New York teams have that moment and for it to finally be our time, it’s one of those things you always dream of as a kid, especially growing up in the area,” said the New Jersey native.
The festivities will also feature a special musical performance by Alicia Keys, who is scheduled to perform the New York anthem “Empire State of Mind” during the City Hall celebration.
The parade marks the culmination of a historic season for the Knicks, who ended a 53-year championship drought and delivered one of the most memorable achievements in franchise history.
For many fans, Thursday’s celebration will be a long-awaited opportunity to honor a team that finally brought an NBA title back to New York.
