Anambra Now Safest In Nigeria, Over 60 Criminal Hideouts Dismantled — Soludo

Governor Charles Soludo has declared Anambra State as the safest state in the country, citing a major drop in crime and sustained security operations across the region.
Speaking during a live media chat in Awka, the governor said the state had recorded no major security incidents in the last three to four months, while authorities have dismantled more than 60 criminal camps.
“It is safe today to say, Anambra, we claim to be the safest from all statistics, that within three to four months, we haven’t had any major incident of any sort.
”We had the best Christmas ever in decades this last Christmas with over 10,000 people visiting the city on a daily basis and so on and so forth,” he said.
Soludo also noted that the long-standing sit-at-home directive linked to Indigenous People of Biafra no longer disrupts activities in the state, with normal life fully restored.
”The sit-at-home is over, our schools and markets, factories and public services are back to work. The flights are back to Anambra on Mondays,” he said.
He explained that the improvements followed sweeping reforms, including new security laws and the establishment of local outfits such as Agunechemba and Ugodachi to tackle crime and enforce order.
The governor recalled that before his administration, insecurity was so severe that residents feared displaying political symbols or moving around freely.
”In 2021, it was impossible for anybody to wear a political party’s paraphernalia or drive a vehicle around Anambra that was branded; you would be killed.’
“Some people were killed,” he said.
Despite the progress, Soludo admitted that total security remains unattainable, stressing that safety efforts must be continuous.
“There is no place with over 100 per cent security,” he said. “It’s not a destination but a work in progress,” the governor added.
