A fire broke out near Glasgow Central Station, prompting road closures and travel disruptions in the center of Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city with a population of more than 650,000.
According to ScotRail, the blaze began in a shop located next to the station. Video footage shared on social media showed flames and thick smoke pouring from the building’s roof and windows.
Rail infrastructure operator Network Rail said the incident was expected to cause disruptions across several major rail routes through at least the end of the day.
Glasgow Central Station is one of the United Kingdom’s busiest transport hubs, handling approximately 30 million passengers each year, according to Network Rail.
