Ex-U.K. Envoy to U.S. Arrested Amid Scrutiny Over Epstein Ties

Britain Epstein Mandelson

Former U.K. ambassador to the United States Peter Mandelson was arrested Monday by London police on suspicion of misconduct in public office, authorities confirmed.

The Metropolitan Police said officers arrested a 72-year-old man at an address in Camden and transported him to a London police station for questioning. The arrest followed the execution of search warrants at two properties in the Camden and Wiltshire areas.

Police did not formally identify the suspect in their statement, but Mandelson, 72, was seen in video footage being escorted from his residence. Authorities later said the man had been released on bail pending further investigation.

The arrest comes amid renewed scrutiny over Mandelson’s past association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Mandelson was dismissed from his post as U.K. ambassador to the United States in September after lawmakers released a collection of messages compiled for Epstein’s 50th birthday, in which Mandelson referred to him as his “best pal.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
