The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of attempting to instigate anarchy with his recent comments on hunger and insecurity in Nigeria.
Atiku, in a statement on Monday, likened Nigeria’s situation to the conditions that sparked the French and Russian revolutions, as well as the Arab Spring.
Responding on Tuesday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described the remarks as “reckless, irresponsible, unbefitting, and degrading to his status as a former Vice President,” adding that Atiku’s words amounted to “a tacit instigation of revolution.”
Morka argued that Nigeria’s economic challenges were rooted in the 16 years of “planlessness and misrule” of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where Atiku served as Vice President for eight years.
“Instead of eradicating hunger, poverty, and insecurity, Atiku and his PDP democratized them. They plundered the treasury and entrenched corruption as state policy. The sordid foundations they laid are what President Tinubu is now courageously battling to defeat with growing success,” Morka said.
He also referenced Atiku’s “confession” about the $16 billion power project under the PDP, describing it as a reminder of his “record of failed leadership.”
According to APC, Atiku’s “desperation for the presidency” has blinded him to the gains of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, pointing to reports of declining inflation and improved economic indicators.
“It is wrong, irresponsible, unpatriotic, and unacceptable to instigate violent uprising under the guise of opposition politics. Violence is never a legitimate mode of democratic engagement,” Morka warned.
The ruling party further alleged that Atiku “hardly resides in Nigeria” and would not share in the consequences of the chaos he is “calling for.”
APC urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in supporting Tinubu’s administration, which it said is committed to building “a nation of our collective dream.”
