DHQ: CDS Musa Never Urged Nigerians to Bear Arm

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has refuted reports alleging that Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Major General Christopher Musa, called on Nigerians to bear arms.

In a statement on Friday, Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, said Musa’s remarks during a television interview on August 20 were misrepresented.

According to him, the CDS only urged citizens to acquire basic survival and self-protection skills, likening them to everyday practices such as driving, swimming, taekwondo, judo, and boxing.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the CDS did not call for unlawful possession of firearms. He is fully aware of Nigerian laws prohibiting unauthorised carrying of weapons. His remarks were aimed at promoting resilience, situational awareness, and lawful preparedness,” Gusau clarified.

The military spokesperson further reassured Nigerians that the armed forces, in collaboration with other security agencies, are making significant gains in the fight against insecurity across the country, reflecting the government’s commitment to protecting lives and ensuring national stability.
