Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, has described the 2027 general elections as a direct confrontation between the Nigerian people and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, warning that public discontent will overpower political maneuvering.
Speaking on News Central, Dalung launched a blistering critique of the current government, accusing it of worsening hardship and weaponizing poverty.
“Even if the 36 state governors of Nigeria defect to the APC and he appoints Seyi Tinubu as the chairman of INEC and maybe appoints his wife as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, they will be defeated in 2027,” he declared.
Dalung said the administration has “declared war against the Nigerian people,” noting that citizens are buckling under the weight of economic hardship, hunger, and insecurity. According to him, the upcoming elections will not just be a political contest but an “existential fight” for the future of ordinary Nigerians.
“The battle line has been drawn. Nigerians should buckle up for 2027 because this fight is not just political it’s existential.”
He urged opposition figures to unite under the newly adopted African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led coalition, describing it as the only credible vehicle to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The only option we have now is to align with the coalition movement to reposition ourselves and confront the government in 2027.”
Dalung joins a growing list of political figures including Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi who have backed the ADC as the opposition’s unified platform ahead of the 2027 polls. The coalition aims to present a formidable challenge to the APC’s hold on power amid rising public discontent.
