Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has directed aviation agencies to investigate the altercation between Air Peace and former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday at the Zulu terminal of the domestic wing, reportedly involved a dispute over a missed 6:30 a.m. flight. Air Peace accused Oshiomhole, who is also a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), of obstructing other passengers from boarding after he was denied entry, having arrived late for his flight.
However, Oshiomhole denied the allegation, claiming instead that Air Peace engaged in passenger extortion by selling tickets to the highest bidders and denying boarding to ticketed passengers.
Following reports of the incident, Minister Keyamo, who had intervened earlier to manage the situation, announced on Friday that he had instructed relevant aviation agencies including the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to thoroughly investigate the matter.
“I have been in direct contact with both parties since Wednesday morning,” Keyamo stated via his verified X handle. “I also directed the aviation agencies to exercise restraint and observe the principle of ‘hear all sides’ before making any conclusions.”
He called on both parties to refrain from further public exchanges and allow the authorities to investigate and resolve the matter properly.
“The relevant aviation agencies have been tasked to collect all available evidence and report back to my office. The goal is to address this issue objectively and to set a precedent for handling similar situations in the future,” he added.
