Senator Sunday Karimi Donates Military Base to Combat Insecurity in Kogi State

In a significant move to address the escalating insecurity in Kogi State, Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West, has officially inaugurated a military base for the Nigerian Army. The facility, located on the outskirts of Egbe in Yagba West Local Government Area, was inaugurated on Saturday.

Senator Karimi highlighted the critical role of this initiative in enhancing the capabilities of the military and security agencies to respond swiftly to incidents of terrorism, kidnapping, and other criminal activities. He noted the growing concerns surrounding criminal activities along the Kogi-Kwara border, where vast forests have increasingly become sanctuaries for criminals. “I conceived the idea of the military base in January this year to assist the Nigerian military and security agencies in ensuring quick responses to terrorists, kidnappers, and criminals,” he stated.

The senator expressed optimism that the new base would deter criminal elements and restore peace to communities in both Kogi and Kwara states. The installation is equipped with two hostels that can accommodate 85 soldiers, along with essential facilities, an armory, and office spaces for the commanding officer.

Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, represented by his Special Adviser on Security, Jerry Omadara, commended Karimi’s initiative. He remarked, “This forward operating base will provide safety for our people and allow the Nigerian Army to take firm control of security in Yagba East and beyond.”

The Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, represented by Obinna Onubogu, GOC 2 Division, also praised the senator’s dedication to the project. He emphasized the base’s strategic importance, noting that it would facilitate the army’s efforts to secure 10 additional states. “Kogi State is integral to our operations because of its location and the River Niger,” Lagbaja added, underscoring the base’s role in preventing the spread of insecurity across the region.
