At Least 4 Dead, Dozens Injured in Mass Shooting in Birmingham, Alabama

At least four people were killed and dozens injured in a mass shooting late Saturday in Birmingham, Alabama, according to police.

Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald said, “Multiple shooters fired multiple shots at a group of people” in the city’s Five Points South area, a district known for its nightlife.

Officers found two men and one woman dead at the scene, and a fourth victim succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

Detectives are still investigating whether the gunmen approached the victims on foot or drove by. No suspects have been arrested so far.

The shooting took place on Magnolia Avenue, where witnesses, standing outside a nearby hookah and cigar lounge, reported hearing gunfire, some of which they believed came from a fully automatic weapon.

“We have dozens of gunshot victims from this area,” Fitzgerald said, noting that at least four of the injured are in critical condition.

This incident adds to the more than 400 mass shootings recorded in the US this year, as tracked by the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as any incident where four or more people are injured or killed.
