UK police have named Daniel Anjorin, a 14-year-old British-Nigerian pupil attending Bancroft’s private school in Woodford Green, as the victim of a fatal sword attack in London earlier this week.

The violent incident has shocked the community, with officers providing further details about the tragic event.

Anjorin was fatally wounded as he left his home to go to school on Tuesday when he was attacked by a man wielding what appeared to be a Samurai-type sword.

The suspect, a 36-year-old man, was tasered and arrested by police at the scene. He remains in custody on suspicion of murder and was not previously known to law enforcement.

Bancroft’s school expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Anjorin, describing him as a true scholar with commendable dedication to his academic pursuits.

“He was a true scholar, demonstrating commendable dedication to his academic pursuits. His positive nature and gentle character will leave a lasting impact on us,” Bancroft’s, in Woodford Green, near Hainault, said.

The Metropolitan Police force revealed that the horror unfolded just before 7:00 am (0600 GMT) when the suspect crashed a van into a house fence, hitting a 33-year-old man before stabbing him in the neck.

Subsequently, a 35-year-old man was attacked inside a nearby property, sustaining lacerations to his arm, before Anjorin was fatally wounded.

Despite police intervention 12 minutes after the first emergency call, the suspect resisted arrest and seriously injured two police officers, both of whom required surgery and remain hospitalized.

One officer, a woman, suffered severe injuries to her arm and nearly lost a hand.

The attack, while not terror-related, underscores the rising concerns about knife violence in the UK.

It came amid a rise in stabbings in the United Kingdom and shortly before voters decide whether to re-elect London mayor Sadiq Khan for a record third term in local elections Thursday.

Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak criticized the record on crime of the incumbent London mayor, Sadiq Khan, ahead of the elections.

Anjorin’s tragic death marks the second recent tragedy for Bancroft’s school, following the killing of former pupil Grace O’Malley-Kumar in Nottingham last year.

O’Malley-Kumar was fatally stabbed while attempting to save her friend from a knife attacker, highlighting the devastating impact of knife crime on communities across the UK.
