Alleged Terrorist Negotiator Seeks Transfer from DSS Custody to Kuje Prison for Medical Treatment

Tukur Mamu, an alleged terrorist negotiator currently standing trial for terrorism offences, has petitioned the Federal High Court in Abuja to transfer him out of the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Mamu’s plea, presented before Justice Inyang Ekwo, seeks a variation of the remand order to relocate him from DSS custody to Kuje Prison for medical treatment.
During the trial proceedings, Mamu, represented by his lawyer Abdul Mohammed, raised concerns regarding the court’s order issued on December 19, 2023. He alleged that the DSS failed to comply with the directive, which granted him access to his physician for medical treatment.
In a motion on notice argued by Mohammed, Mamu asserted that despite being allowed access to the physician once, subsequent requests for medical attention were ignored by the DSS.
He highlighted the urgency of his medical condition, citing the need for surgical operations that could only be conducted in a hospital outside DSS custody.
Mamu claimed that his health had significantly deteriorated since the submission of the medical examination report, expressing fears that his life might be at risk if he remained in DSS custody.
He promised regular attendance at the trial for the terrorism charges adding that he can only stand trial when alive.
In response to Mamu’s plea, Justice Inyang Ekwo scheduled May 20 for the ruling on the matter.
