Detained Binance Executive Sues NSA, EFCC of Human Rights Violation

Tigran Gambaryan, a detained executive of Binance, has leveled accusations against the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, and the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging violations of his fundamental human rights.
In an originating motion, Gambaryan sought a declaration asserting that his detention and confiscation of his travel document contravened Section 35 (1) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution (As Amended).
He petitioned the court to compel the NSA and EFCC to release him from their custody and promptly return his passport.
Additionally, Gambaryan sought an order of perpetual injunction, restraining the respondents and their agents from further detaining him in connection with any investigation into or demands from Binance.
Furthermore, he requested the court to mandate the respondents to issue a public apology to him.
Gambaryan maintained that his presence in Nigeria, alongside fleeing Nadeem Anjarwalla, was in response to the invitation extended by the NSA and EFCC to discuss matters concerning Binance in Nigeria.
He argued that he had not committed any offense during the meeting and had not been formally informed in writing of any personal offenses committed in Nigeria at any other time.
During Thursday’s proceedings, Counsel to the plaintiffs, T.J. Krukrubo, notified the court that the respondents had been served with the motion two days prior.
Subsequently, he announced his withdrawal from the matter as counsel for the fleeing Anjarwalla, without providing reasons for his decision.
Presiding over the session, Justice Inyang Ekwo adjourned the case until April 8, allowing for further deliberation on the matter.
