Yulia Navalnaya Calls for Accountability: “Putin Must Be Held Responsible”

Yulia Navalny, the wife of Alexei Navalny, has asserted that if the reports of her husband’s death are accurate, Russian President Vladimir Putin must face accountability.

In her statement, she emphasized that Putin and his associates should bear personal responsibility for the multitude of atrocities committed in Russia. Yulia Navalnaya also urged the global community to unite in confronting this malevolence.

Navalny, who was serving a lengthy prison sentence, was declared dead under unclear circumstances.

The Russian prison authorities announced on Friday that the opposition figure, Alexei Navalny, had fallen ill after a walk and subsequently lost consciousness at the Siberian penitentiary known as the “Polar Wolf” colony.

Addressing the Munich Security Conference in Germany unexpectedly, Yulia Navalnaya expressed skepticism about the information, stating uncertainty about whether to believe the distressing news disseminated solely by official government sources. She underscored the lack of trust in the Putin government, emphasizing their habitual deceit, as she spoke before an audience of dignitaries.

In a resolute and emotionally charged speech, she asserted that if the reports were accurate, she wanted “Putin and everyone around him, his friends and the government, to know that they will be held accountable for what they did to our country, to my family and my husband.” She concluded with a poignant declaration that the day of accountability would arrive soon, earning a standing ovation from the audience.

Overcome with emotion, Ms. Navalnaya struggled to hold back tears as she delivered a compelling appeal to the Munich Security Conference, a significant annual gathering attended by leaders from across the world. Urging attendees to “fight this horrific regime in Russia today,” she envisioned her husband, Alexei Navalny, standing on the same stage.

The 47-year-old spouse of the Russian opposition leader expressed inner turmoil regarding the decision to stay in Munich or hastily travel to her children in the face of the distressing developments.
