The National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal has nullified Seyi Sowunmi’s election victory as the representative for Lagos State’s Ojo Federal Constituency.
Sowunmi was elected on the Labor Party (LP) platform.
However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the race, Honorable Lanre Ogunyemi, challenged the Labour Party candidates’ victory as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
On Thursday, a three-man panel of the tribunal sacked Sowunmi from the position and gave victory to Ogunyemi, the APC candidate and former Secretary of the Lagos State APC.
The judges on the panel, Justice Ashu A. Ewah, Chairman; Justice Abdullahi A. Ozegya; and Justice M. A. Sambo, ruled that the Labour Party candidate lacked the necessary qualifications to run for office.
Court Reinstate Lamidi Apapa As Labour Party National Chairman, Dismiss Abure
Lamidi Apapa has been reinstated as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) by the Court of Appeal in Owerri, Imo State, following the dismissal of Julius Abure.
The court acknowledged Apapa as the legitimate national head of the party in a decision on Thursday.
Athan Achonu, a senator running in the next Imo state election, and other candidates for governor who emerged from the party’s Abure-led faction also had their candidacies declared void by the court.
The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the governorship candidates of the party who emerged from the Apapa-led faction in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo states and publish their names.
Recall that a Court of Appeal in Benin City, Edo State capital, on Monday, affirmed Abure as the authentic national chairman of the party.
