Tukur Mamu: DSS Drops Suit Against Bandit Negotiator

Tukur Mamu
The Department of State Services (DSS) has retracted a suit filed in a Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to detain former terrorist negotiator Tukur Mamu for an additional 60 days following his arrest.

The DSS, through its counsel, Ahmed Magaji, moved an ex-parte motion on Sept. 13 seeking an order of the court to detain Mamu for 60 more days in the first instance, pending the conclusion of its investigation.

On September 12, the motion, labelled FHC/ABJ/CS/1617/2022, was dated and filed.

The security agency asked the court to grant its demand so that it could complete its investigation into Mamu, who had been leading the negotiations with terrorists for the release of the Abuja-Kaduna train passengers kidnapped in March.

However, in the resumed hearing, the counsel, A.M. Danlami, informed Justice Nkeonye Maha that the matter has been overtaken by events.

He said, “My Lord, this matter is slated for hearing today. However, the matter has been overtaken by events. We wish to withdraw the suit.”

Following the application, Justice Maha struck out the suit.

“Application of the learner counsel succeeds. The application is hereby struck out having been withdrawn,” she ruled.
