The event, according to Ajanaku, will be the largest cashew summit in Africa because it will bring together delegates and key stakeholders and attract business opportunities that will help stimulate and influence policies in the sector. He made this statement at a press briefing on Friday in Abuja.

Speaking further, he said; “Although government is doing much to support cashew production in Nigeria, there is still much to be done. We have the potential to produce more than what we are producing today.”

Nigeria now produces roughly 350,000 metric tonnes of cashews annually, with a goal of increasing that to 1 million tonnes within the next 4-5 years, he said.

Ernest Mintah, the managing director of the African Cashew Alliance (ACA), said in a separate speech that the organisation has been around since 2006 and currently operates in about 14 countries where cashews are produced.
