The 440 officers were expected to be trained health professionals, according to a statement by Dr. James Madi, chairman of the Committee for Human Resource for Health (recruitment), who on Sunday delivered the governor’s approval.
The 114 wards in the state have some facilities that lack medical staff.
In the 11 Local Government Areas, he disclosed that the recruits would be assigned to various primary health facilities.
The statement partly read, “The recruitment is informed by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s resolve to address the chronic shortage of skilled health workers needed to provide the basic minimum package of health services, especially at the primary level which is the foundation of the health system.”
Madi added that the employment was in collaboration with the Primary Healthcare Development and a partner organization, stressing that it would boost delivery across facilities in the state.
“Accordingly, the Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunisation GAVI,” the statement added.
