However, neither Tanko Abdullahi, spokesman for the minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning Zainab Ahmed, nor Henshaw Ogunbike, director of information at the office of the Accountant-General, provided official confirmation.
When contacted, they both denied knowledge of the development. While Ogunbike said “ I’m not around,” Abdullahi simply said he didn’t have the information to confirm new changes.
As of when this report was filed, the reasons for Anamekwe’s dismissal were still hazy. However, sources claimed he was dismissed due to graft charges.
Additionally, there are rumors that he was fired for acknowledging that the federal government was in significant financial difficulty and had resorted to borrowing to pay employee salaries.
Ahmed Idris was replaced by Anamekwe in an acting capacity after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) suspended him from office in May of this year due to corruption allegations.
Idris is on trial for allegedly embezzling N80 billion worth of public funds.
