Nigeria: Labor To Hold A Day Of Protests Regarding The State Of The Nation

The ongoing strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has prompted the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) leadership to yesterday issue a warning to its members to prepare for a possible statewide protest.

The demonstration will be held in support of ASUU to strengthen the academics’ current demands for change in Nigeria’s institutions.

NLC national president, Comrade Ayuba Wabba who spoke at the national executive council meeting of the congress in Abuja also expressed dissatisfaction over the sack of teachers by the Kaduna State government and called for a commission of inquiry on the issue.

Comrade Ayuba also said Zamfara, Abia, Taraba, and Cross River states are yet to commence the implementation of the N30,000 national minimum wage, adding that the congress would consider a review of workers’ salaries after every 14 years.

The congress also requested that Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, the federation’s head of service, divulge the identities of individuals responsible for the newly publicized 70,000 ghost workers found by IPPIS.
