World Health Organisation (WHO) has linked the rising cases of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) to a lack of regular physical activities. WHO country representative in Nigeria, Dr. Walter Mulombo, who spoke during the third edition of the global “Walk the Talk: Health For All Challenge” on Saturday in Abuja, said the walk was an opportunity for people to know more about NCDs and their effect. He said it was also to raise awareness of the need to be active, which according to him, can help in reducing the burden of NCDs like hypertension, diabetes, and others.
“Today is an opportunity to get everybody on board to beat the burden of Non-communicable Diseases which are on the increase. “The walk is to raise awareness and remind Nigerians to be active to reduce the burden of Non- communicable Diseases through physical activities,” he said.
Mulombo noted that the walk was the first after the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic and was also marking the beginning of activities of the World Health Assembly. “The focus for the 2022 World Health Assembly is Health for peace and peace for health,” he said.
