So far, governors’ directives to political appointees interested in running for office in next year’s general election have resulted in huge resignations across the country.
The governors are implementing Section 84(12) of the modified Electoral Act, which states that appointments such as commissioners, special advisors, and others must resign in order to be eligible to attend their political parties’ conventions as delegates or candidates.
According to LEADERSHIP the former governor of Anambra State has concluded his consultations and would announce his aspiration after Easter in Alor, his country home.
Ngige vowed to respond to the demand of members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Southeast Progressive Forum at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu yesterday.
He pointed out that the Southeast has remained the only region of the country that has not tested the country’s presidency to the test.
Ngige, who described the crowd’s presence as “Easter Ambush,” claimed he had previously received a similar request from his brethren and told them that this time it will be different.
He informed the crowd that the fact that they made the demand over Easter made it all the more important, and he invited them to his country home on Tuesday to receive feedback.
Ngige stated that he has had several discussions and that everything done around Easter is spiritual.
Tony Chime, the forum’s spokesman, had earlier told Ngige that they had come to the airport to plead with him to run for president in the 2023 election.
Their desire, according to Chime, stemmed from his good records as governor of Anambra State and now as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
