Coleman Proposes A Solution To The National Grid’s Inexorable Collapse

With its investment in the manufacturing of gap cables in the country, Coleman Cable and Wires claims to be able to address the problem of the nation’s national grid’s continual collapse.

Mr. George Onafowokan, Coleman’s managing director/CEO, stated this in response to the country’s national grid’s recent collapse.

Coleman, according to Onafowokan, has positioned itself to assist Nigeria in resolving the situation that has engulfed millions of people in darkness. I’d want to appeal to the Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, to solve the problem by looking inward.

Coleman is willing to collaborate with the federal government, the Nigerian Ministry of Power and Transmission Company, he said.

“Coleman is committed to a $50 million investment which will in return create direct and indirect 100,000 jobs. The federal government should allow us to solve this problem once and for all with the production of transmission cables that would put an end to the Incessant collapse of the national grid,” he pointed out.

He stressed that Coleman is ready to work with the federal government, the Ministry of Power and Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to ensure Nigerians enjoy a steady power supply in the country, with the supply of one of the latest technology-driven power conductors, GAP Cable, that has the capacity to carry more load than existing cables.

“Our company has acquired the technology and capabilities to manufacture various cables that were previously imported with huge foreign currencies.

“Coleman will be the first GAP Aluminium Cable producer in West Africa and this will make Nigeria only the third country in Africa with in-country production,” he said.

Heat-resistant aluminum is used over a steel core in gap-type ZT-aluminum conductor steel reinforced (GZTACSR). It preserves a gap between a high-strength steel core and the initial layer of aluminum alloy strands, which is one of the qualities.

A high temperature-resistant grease fills the space between the first layer of trapezoidal shaped aluminum strands and the steel core. The Gap type conductor’s principle is that it may be tensioned only on the steel core during erection. This results in a conductor with a knee-point at the erection temperature.
