The decision was made in response to pressure placed on Buni by governors elected on the party’s platform and other stakeholders.
The decision, however, will not be permanent because it must be confirmed by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and other party organs, including members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum.
“We were told that the caretaker committee has settled for February 25 due to the pressure being mounted on them. However, the date is tentative and could change at any time,” said a source.
Buni had come under fire from several governors earlier in the week, with some accusing him and two others of hijacking the party.
They also accused the Yobe governor of harboring vice-presidential ambitions and plotting to install his cronies in the party via a hazy consensus accord.
