Domestic abuse and other related vices are rampant in Nigeria, according to the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in Kwara State.
According to the Association of Women Lawyers, if the threat continues, Nigeria will be confronted with a hydra that will defy any quick solution.
Mrs. Gloria Okoduwa, the chairman of FIDA in Kwara State, expressed her wordy at the branch’s 2021 Biennial Week, which was themed “Speak Out on Rape and Domestic Violence” held in Ilorin, the state capital.
“The issues of domestic violence and other vices have turned to monsters, seriously staring us in the face and I dare say that if things continue to go unchecked and are not nipped in the bud, we may end up facing a hydra that defies any easy solution.
“To this extent, abusers should be exposed and allowed to face the consequences of their actions. Once an abuser is exposed, another prey is saved from his clutches,” Okoduwa said.
The occasion was headed by Justice Sulaiman Kawu, the Chief Judge of Kwara State, who said the topic of the week was appropriate, especially at this difficult time when violence against women has reached alarming proportions.
Kawu, who was represented by Justice Haleema Saliman, related women’s violence to their upbringing in varied households and advised parents to be attentive about their children’s behavior.
