Fuel Hike: Makinde Grants ₦10,000 Transport Relief to Workers

Governor Seyi Makinde has approved a ₦10,000 monthly transportation support fund for civil servants in Oyo State in response to rising petrol prices across the country.

The governor announced the intervention during the YEAP-SAFER support disbursement and stakeholder engagement programme held in partnership with the Fashola Agribusiness Hub.

Makinde said the initiative, which will run for an initial three months, is designed to cushion the impact of increased transportation costs on workers and maintain productivity within the public service.

“This support is a direct response to the realities our workers are facing. We understand that transportation costs have gone up significantly, and as a government, we must act to ease that burden,” he said.

He explained that the measure forms part of the state’s broader economic relief strategy under the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) framework, aimed at mitigating the effects of inflation on residents.

The event also featured the disbursement of funds to beneficiaries of the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness Project (YEAP) and other targeted programmes intended to boost livelihoods and economic activities in the state.

Stakeholders described the intervention as timely, noting that many workers are struggling with rising living costs. The transport support is expected to take effect from March, with further details on disbursement to be provided by the state government.
