IGP Egbetokun: Innovation Key to Solving Nigeria’s Security Woes

Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has charged senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to embrace speed, innovation, and foresight in addressing the country’s fast-evolving security landscape.

Egbetokun gave the charge on Monday in Abuja while declaring open a one-day workshop for senior officers, organised by the Police Resource Centre in partnership with the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP). The workshop was themed “Managing Fast-Paced Security Challenges in a Protracted Conflict Environment.”

The police chief warned that modern conflicts emerge suddenly, escalate quickly, and often linger, stressing that police leaders must remain proactive and innovative. He commended the SPSP for bridging scholarship and policing, describing the collaboration as an opportunity for the Force to “reflect, renew, and sharpen leadership capacity for the complex challenges ahead.”

Egbetokun also paid tribute to SPSP figures, including founder Professor Isaac Olawale Albert, celebrated as the “Father of Peace,” Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and the current President, Nathaniel Msen Awuapila.
