Media entrepreneur Dele Momodu has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is positioning himself to become the sole candidate in the 2027 presidential election.
Momodu’s comments followed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) recent decision to de-recognize the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark, citing its interpretation of a Court of Appeal ruling.
Describing INEC as “a debilitating albatross” on the nation, Momodu criticized what he termed selective interventions, noting the swift recognition of the Wike-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while other party factions remain unaddressed.
“Different factions in APC are fighting across states, yet INEC cannot address them. With governors coerced or converted to APC, the ruling party remains jittery. Now that INEC has summarily ‘derecognized’ ADC, the last hope is the courts, but even that is precarious,” Momodu wrote on X.
He added that Tinubu and his allies aim to secure a single-candidate scenario for 2027, drawing a historical comparison to the late Sani Abacha, who attempted a similar approach during his rule from 1993 to 1998.
Momodu’s remarks highlight growing concerns about electoral fairness, party recognition, and the importance of legal recourse and public vigilance ahead of Nigeria’s next general elections.
