Zamfara’s International Airport to Be Completed in Four Months, Boost Economic Growth

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has announced that the state’s international airport, currently under construction, will be completed within the next four months, signaling a new era of economic growth and improved security.

In an interview on ARISE Television on Monday, Lawal emphasized that the airport would significantly alleviate the state’s isolation and attract investments by eliminating the dangerous seven-hour road trip from Abuja.

“No serious investor would drive seven hours from Abuja to Zamfara by road, especially with all the security challenges,” the governor remarked. “It’s just not practical.”

He further stressed that the airport would enhance accessibility and mark a significant turning point in the state’s development. “In three to four months, you will be able to fly directly into Zamfara. This will be the start of many great things as the state becomes more accessible. The issues of insecurity and the dangers of road travel will be a thing of the past.”

The airport, which began construction in June 2024, is designed as a smart facility capable of accommodating both domestic and international flights. It is part of a broader plan to position Zamfara as a destination for tourism, trade, and long-term investment.

Governor Lawal also highlighted progress in road rehabilitation and flood control efforts in Gusau, the state capital, which have led to job creation and increased business activity.

“When I took office, it was impossible to travel 200 meters in Gusau on a good road. The city would flood whenever it rained. But now, you can see the improvements — new jobs and a growing economy,” he said.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming Zamfara into a thriving hub for both local and global investors by improving infrastructure and addressing security concerns.
