This is the 15th EPL game postponed this summer owing to the recurrence of the COVID-19 pandemic in recent weeks.
Wolves are considered to have suffered a setback after registering an alarming amount of COVID-19 instances, as well as having several of their players injured and so not having the requisite number of players available for their next match.
Confirming the postponement of the Wolves Vs Arsenal game, the Premier League board in a statement released on Boxing Day, December 26, said: “The Premier League Board accepted the postponement application as Wolves do not have the required number of players available for the match (13 outfield players and one goalkeeper) as a result of several COVID-19 cases and injuries at the club.”
Wolves’ Boxing Day match with Watford was one of three games scheduled for the traditional round of matches on December 26 called off due to squads decimated by Covid-19 infections and injuries.
However, that was due to an outbreak in the Watford camp.
Six Premier League games were halted this season in front of full crowds despite Britain battling record coronavirus figures owing to a wave of the Omicron strain of the virus.
Clubs had in the last week rejected the option of temporarily halting the season to allow a circuit breaker for infections.
Meanwhile, at a meeting on Monday, the Premier League board cautioned that games would only be permitted to take place if each side has 13 healthy outfield players and a goalkeeper.
On Boxing Day, 22 matches in the English Football League (EFL) were postponed across the three divisions below the Premier League.
In England, no restrictions on the number of audiences at matches have yet been imposed, however, fans must provide confirmation of vaccination or a negative test obtained within the preceding 48 hours.
